Team Canada Bronze in front of Home Crowd
An experience of a lifetime!
.
At just 14 years old, Samantha Couture was selected to represent Team Canada in front of a home crowd last weekend in Montreal at the International Gymnix competition. The competition boasted some of the top athletes from around the world challenging for the title! Among the standouts on the Senior Level was current Olympic bars Champion, Kaylia Neymour of Algeria.
.
Samantha was selected alongside 3 other athletes from across Canada to compete in the Junior Cup. This would be Couture's very first time competing in this category. Couture and her coaches set off for Montreal on Tuesday to prepare for 6 days of training and competition.
.
As part of Team Canada, they need a few days to prepare for competition as the equipment is set on a podium and not on the ground directly like their home gyms. This training time for all athletes is crucial to ensure top performances. Samantha and teammates also took part in numerous autograph sessions and photoshoot for official media and for the fans in the crowd!
.
"I was very proud of Sam. She definitely took on the leader role in the group and led some of the warm ups for the team." recalls coach Anic Bellerose. And on Saturday evening it was time to compete.
.
Each of the countries had extremely talented athletes and Canada showed the home crowd they were chosen for a purpose! Couture put in one of her best point totals across all events so far this season with 3 of her scores counting towards the team's final score. Team Canada finished with a BRONZE MEDAL in the Junior Cup! This marks Couture's 3rd international medal. Every international competition she has attended, she has returned with a medal!
.
The team was very excited to compete in front of their home crowd and managed their nerves very well. But this competition is just the beginning for this young team! All 4 athletes were selected to represent Canada again next month in Jesolo, Italy.
.
Competition date is set for mid April 2025. We want to congratulate all the girls, their home clubs and all the coaches on a fantastic performance from our Team Canada! We wish you the best of luck next month and cannot hear all about it!
